Husker Tennis Advances to State Quarterfinals
The Husker Tennis team took on good competition last week, as 4 members of the squad look forward to State competition as well. But first, the team as a whole had some business to take care of, and they did, reach the state quarterfinals along the way.
The Huskers took out Knob Noster 5-0, Odessa 5-0, and then rival Marshall 5-0 as well to reach the state elite eight (quarterfinals) of team tennis.
Results against Marshall were: Colby Dickmeier and Alex Dyer won at #1 doubles 8-5, Matteo Guillen and Rhett Burns won 8-4 at #2, and Cy Fitzgerel and Joel Cook won 8-0 at #3 for the Doubles sweep, and momentum carrier into singles. Singles winners were Dyer, Fitzgerel, and Cook, who clinched the team win, and meant the other matches were halted in place. The Huskers are now 18-1 overall. The quarterfinal match will be played this week in Higginsville against North County High School from the east side of the state.
