Minutemen fall late to Lathrop on the road

A rough sixth inning did the Lexington Minutemen Baseball Team in, as the Lathrop Mules scored four runs in that frame, to break open a close game, and beat the Minutemen 8 to 3 a week ago Monday in Lathrop.

The Mules led 1-0 after two innings, but Lexington came to life in the top of the third, as Alex Kraft and Hunter Meyer both singled, while Braxton Emerson walked and Trey Perez reached on an error, and the Minutemen grabbed a 2-1 lead. Lexington made it 3-1 in the top of the fourth, as Kale Sander doubled, Johnnie Groves reached on a Lathrop miscue, and Kraft drove in a run with a single.

The Mules quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, to go back up by the score of 4-3, which is where things stood after 5 innings. Lathrop then pretty well put a hole in the game in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a triple, two doubles , a single and a walk, and they led 8-3, going into the seventh.

The Minutemen threatened in the final inning, as Meyer and Perez both drew free passes, but they could not push a run across, and fell by the final 8 to 3 count.

Perez handled the pitching chores for Lexington going 6 innings, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits, with 5 strikeouts and only 1 free pass. Sander had a double and a single for Lexington, while Kraft had two singles for the contest.

Emerson had a triple and two walks, while Meyer reached base twice and had a single, with Perez reaching twice, and Groves and Abel Morris each reaching base once.
