Minutemen fall in late innings to Plattsburg

In as good of a pitchers duel as you could see, the Plattsburg Tigers broke loose in the final two innings to beat the Lexington Minutemen 6 to 0 in a game a week ago Monday at Lexington Community Park.

Trey Perez of Lexington and Keegan Gudde of Plattsburg , were both almost flawless for the first five innings as neither one gave up a run, and they yielded only 4 singles between the two of them during that time.

Things started off well for Lexington in the first inning, as Ayden Harned belted a line drive off of the pitchers glove, that landed in no man’s land in the middle of the infield for a base hit. Unfortunately, that was the only hit that Gudde would give up for the entire game. Plattsburg had runners on second and third in the second inning, but Perez got a strikeout and a pop up to end the threat. Perez drew a leadoff walk in the fifth inning of the scoreless game, but he was stranded, and was the last Lexington base runner in the contest.

In the top of the sixth, Plattsburg broke the scoreless tie, as Gudde led off with a double, and then after a Lexington miscue and a walk, Lincoln Burns drove in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly, followed by a 2 run single by Camden McLallen, and the Tigers led 3-0. Plattsburg scored 3 more times in the seventh inning to make the final 60.

Perez pitched the first 5 innings for Lexington allowing no runs on only 3 singles, with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Tristyn Hurshman pitched the sixth inning for the Minutemen giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 walk, while Isaac Huffman worked the seventh inning allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit with a walk and a hit batter. Gudde pitched a complete game one hit shut out for Plattsburg, striking out 11 and walking only 1.

As stated earlier, Harned had the only hit for Lexington, while Zach Annis reached base 4 times for Plattsburg, while driving in a run and scoring twice. Gudde doubled and scored what ended up being the winning run for the Tigers.
