Storm causes damage to poles, causes extended closure of Hwy 65

On the evening of Friday, April 17, a storm caused bouts of damage across the region.

Along Hwy 65, between the Waverly Bridge and Bowdry, a stretch of telephone poles were snapped over into the highway. Crews with MoDOT, Evergy and Black & McDonald of Kansas City, which equated approximately 120 workers, worked all day Saturday to replace 37 poles over a two-mile stretch. They reopened Hwy 65 late Saturday evening, but closed it again Sunday morning to string power lines.

The highway was finally reopened for good late Sunday evening. Here, (facing north) crews work to restore the poles on Saturday evening.
