Bringing the end of session home

With one week left in session, we are in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded with bills, and quite a few more up to bat. I am happy to report on a few bills that have already crossed home plate.
The fiscal year 2027 budget was Truly Agreed To and Finally Passed this week, which translates to: the legislative work on the budget is done. I am proud to say we passed a balanced budget – meaning it does not exceed projected revenue in the coming year – and we got it done before the deadline of May 8. The final operating budget sits at $48.7 billion and funds the necessary programs and departments throughout the state. It is on its way to the governor’s desk to be signed.
Speaking of which, I had the chance to attend the signing of my Senate Bill 914 this week. This bill updates sewage regulation, changing policy to focus on testing soil to determine sewage needs rather than using percolation tests. Soil testing is more accurate and less dependent on the time of year and weather conditions. It will help keep our soil clean and help cut down on unnecessary procedures. I am happy to see this piece of legislation make it across the finish line so it can improve the lives of Missourians across the state.
A lot can happen these final few days of session, and I hope we finish with a home run or two, ending the game with a win for Missouri voters.
