Auditor releases monthly reports on municipalities, special district financial information
On March 6, Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick issued monthly reports detailing the compliance of municipalities and other political subdivisions with financial reporting laws.
One report includes cities, towns, and villages while the other lists political subdivisions such as water, fire protection, and other taxing districts. Per state regulation, these entities are required to file annual financial reports with the State Auditor’s Office within six months of the end of their fiscal year.
A total of 30 taxing districts were required to file by January 31 because their fiscal year ended on July 31. Of those entities, 25 filed financial reports timely. A total of 5 taxing districts failed to file financial reports on time.
Several local fire protection and special road districts had reports due on Jan. 31, 2026. The report for Odessa Special Road District was due Jan. 31, 2026 and it was filed on Aug. 19, 2025.
