Hazel Hill Community Club turns 75

Club Historian
Hazel Hill was a busy, happy place for school children in our community until the year 1950, after the state’s decision to send our country children to school in town. Our school house stood lonely and empty.
Mrs. Lee Kappleman made an effort to keep this community life together. She contacted Miss Martha Jones, Lafayette County Extension agent, for information and help to organize an extension club.
The club was organized in March, 1951, with Mrs. Leonard Burgess as president and 26 members. The original name Hazel Hill was retained. The colors are pink and green and the motto is, “Get acquainted with your neighbors.”
Our club, with the help of our beloved Miss Jones, planned programs that would be enjoyable to all. Our meeting day, the second Thursday of each month, is looked forward to by each member.
The club has sponsored a child from the State School for the past six years. Each year some type of entertainment is held for the polio benefit. Monetary gifts for other benefits is given; many card parties and square dances are enjoyed by the community. Care packages are sent each month and also monetary gifts to the Butterfield Ranch at Marshall, Mo. We also sponsor the Hazel Hill 4-H Club.
The club now has a membership of 23 members.
