Sale of T-shirts to raise funds for proposed mural

News Editor The Lexington Community Fair Board is raising funds for a proposed mural to be painted on the side of the Standard Press building near the Main Street Park.

T-shirts celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the nation, Lexington history, and bearing the 2026 Fair theme “Freedom Chimes and Good Times” are being sold for $20.

T-shirts are available in all sizes and can be purchased at various locations around town, including several businesses and City Hall. All proceeds will go toward the mural project.

Fair Board member Deb Bagley said the mural would cover the full length of the two-story building.

The effort will cost $13,000 to $15,000. Arts Council member Tom Beard — who is assisting with the project — said artists are being sought who have experience painting murals on two-story buildings. Proposals are due by May 1.

“We would like to have the mural done by fair time,” said Beard.

Beard added donations are also being requested to raise funds for the mural.

The Fair Board’s next meeting is April 16 at 6 p.m. at the Feedhouse. All are welcome to attend.
