Minutemen drop conference tilt to Holden
The Holden Eagles scored 9 runs in the final three innings, and broke open a close game to beat the Lexington Minutemen Baseball Team 12 to 2 a week ago Tuesday at Lexington Community Park.
After a scoreless first inning, Holden scored twice in the second inning, and tacked on one more run in the third to lead 3-0.
Lexington had a man in scoring position in each of the first three frames, as Kale Sander doubled in the first, Ayden Harned singled in the second, and Alex Kraft also singled in the third, but the Minutemen were not able to push a run across in any of those innings.
The Eagles then benefitted from 4 walks and a couple of hits to open up a 7-0 lead after four innings and , and they then scored once in the fifth on 2 doubles, and added 4 runs in the sixth inning, thanks to 5 walks and only 1 hit. Lexington got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Hunter Meyer led off with a double, and after Trey Perez was hit by a pitch, for the ninth time this season, and Alex Huffman drew a walk, Harned stroked a two run single to make it 12 -2, which ended up being the final tally.
Sander started on the mound for Lexington, going 4 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, with one strikeout and 6 walks. Harned came in to relieve, and issued 4 earned runs on 2 hits and 4 free passes, while Drew Bollmeyer worked the final scoreless 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit, while hitting one batter.
Harned had 2 hits in the game, and drove in the 2 Lexington runs, while Sander and Meyer each had a double. Destry Powell and Chasen Hall each had 2 hits for Holden, with both belting a double and driving in 2 runs.
