Husker Baseball Season Ends in District Opener

Husker Baseball looked to extend its season in district play last week at Holden, but first was a meeting with the Santa Fe Chiefs on Tuesday, May 12th at Red Simmons Field in Fairground Park for senior night at the ball yard. Santa Fe took control of this contest early, as they plated 5 runs in the first inning, ushering in a pitching change for Higginsville, after .2 innings of play. After the change on the hill, Santa Fe kept the upper hand until Higginsville would scratch across a run in the 4th, and three in the 5th.

Eventually the Blue and Gold would tie the ball game up at 5 all in the 7th. The Chiefs would tack on three insurance runs of their own in the extra inning, and hold on for the win, 8-5. Hits for the Huskers came from Levi Kroessen with 1, Joel Mahnken with 1, Cael Wilkson with a 2 for 4 performance, Owen Wood 2 for 4, and Rylan Shockey, also 2 for 4. Pitching wise; Wilkson took the L, going .2 innings, with 4 hits allowed, and 3 walks.

The Huskers fell in the first round of Class 3 District 14 action at Holden on Friday the 15th, by the tally of 4 to 3 to the Butler Bears. The loss ends the season as we say goodbye to the seniors.
