Tennis Courts Receive Much Needed Resurfacing Project
For the first time in several years, the Fairground Park Tennis Courts have been refurbished with the help from a major grant from the United States Tennis Association, along with $3,000.00 from the Kansas City area USTA chapter these grants total around $35,000.00. Additional help with funding is available by splitting the cost with Lafayette County C-1, a memorial of $10,000.00 from the Frances Fitzgerel family, and donations from community partners such as the Higginsville Rotary Club ($5,000.00), Higginsville Lions Club ($2,000.00), and a couple more private donations as well.
McConnell and Associates of Kansas City did the resurfacing job after taking off the old surface last week.
A condition of the grant, which the park is very excited about is that “blended lines” be added to help grow youth tennis development (blended lines mark a smaller court on courts three and four and are designed for younger players).
The park department learned of this generous grant opportunity by attending the National Recreation and Park Association conferences (NRPA).
The park department would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this refurbish job a reality. The courts are used by not park patronss, but also by the High School boys and girls tennis teams, and Lafayette County C-1 physical education . classes as well.
