Juneteenth agenda announced

The Lafayette County Juneteenth Foundation Board proudly announces its agenda for the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration. The 2026 celebration will be held Friday, June 26, 2026 thru Sunday, June 28, 2026. Activities will be held in Higginsville and Lexington. The theme is “Freedom: Yesterday’s Legacy, Today’s Promise, and Tomorrow’s Hope!” Alcohol is not permitted. Everyone is welcome. Children under the age of 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Local students named to Missouri State University’s spring 2026 dean’s list

SPRINGFIELD, MO (06/01/2026)-- Each semester, students at Missouri State University who attain academic excellence are named to the dean's list. For undergraduate students, criteria include enrollment in at least 12 credit hours during the spring semester and at least a 3.50 grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). More than 5,000 students were named to the spring 2026 dean's list. The Douglas School Project

The Douglass School Project is pleased to announce the beginning of construction on Phase One of the rehabilitation of the historic former African-American school building in Higginsville, Missouri. Preliminary work, including asbestos removal, begins the week of June 1, 2026. Phase One window and door repairs ($180,000) are scheduled to begin the week of June 15, 2026. This work is being accomplished through a grant received from the National Park Service, along with generous donations from members of the general public.
