Jack Remembers
Back when I was a kid, we had two barbershops in Oak Grove. One was located in an old wood frame building between the bank and the Oddfellows building. The bank bought the building, tore it down and expanded to the south.

To everything there is a season
Ecclesiastes 3:1, from the New King James Version of the Bible, says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

One of the biggest mistakes Kansas City has made was not keeping the FFA convention here with the American Royal. The FFA groups from Missouri now send their delegations to Louisville, Kentucky. Kansas City had the group forever. When I was in high school, a carload of us guys went to the American Royal every year.

Vemon Thompson lived on a farm south of Odessa and went to Rocky Ford, a one room country school.

Congratulations
I know that we, older citizens, and by the way, the new older citizens, are anyone over 75, are generally perceived to be against anything new, or at least out of the norm that we’ve known over the past 70-plus years.

Several years ago, my cousin, Mary Turner, gave a presentation at the Oak Grove Historical Society about “feed sack dresses.” She was an expert on the subject and also collected feed and flour sacks. Apparently, it took three feed sacks to make an adult woman’s dress. Flour sacks were white, made of a softer cotton material, and were used for undergarments and pillow cases.

Well, they always say when you live in a small town you’ve got the best people living there and Lexington is one of those towns that has those people.
