Lady Chiefs ground the Orioles
The Santa Fe Lady Chiefs traveled over to Orange and Black territory last week for softball at Concordia on April 8. The Lady Orioles led one to zero after one, and then Santa Fe dented home four times in the 2nd, and 5 more times in the third to open up a big advantage. After a scoreless fourth, the Lady Chiefs added 5 more runs and held on for a spread win of 14-4 after 5 innings.

Santa Fe held it’s annual middle school track meet on Thursday, April 9, with many schools from the area showing up to compete.
Multiple area accidents reported
On Sunday, April 12, a Higginsville juvenile was injured in a one-vehicle accident on I-70 between Higginsville and Odessa.

Chiefs baseball edged by Concordia
The Red and Black attack was on the road last week on April 8 to play Concordia. This would turn out to be a very close ball game with a thin one run being the difference. Santa Fe-Norborne would take an early lead of 4-0 after two and half innings before CHS struck back making it 4-3. In the 4th Santa Fe tacked on another run, however the Orioles snagged three more of their own in their at bat. The home team plated one more run in the 5th to take a 7-5 lead into the late innings. The Chiefs would take an 8-7 lead in the final frame, with CHS getting the last at bat. The Orioles then plated three runs for the hard fought I-70 win.

MDC reports young hunters took more than 5k turkeys over youth weekend
Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) shows young turkey hunters in Missouri harvested 5,255 birds over the past youth weekend, April 11-12. Top harvest counties were Osage with 121 birds harvested, Franklin with 119, and Gasconade with 107.

Lafayette County Retired School Personnel (LCRSP) met on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the FCS Financial Office in Higginsville, MO. A general meeting was held, followed by guest speaker Brigade Command Sergeant Major (Ret.), Don Kerrick Lilleman.

Veterans cemetery seeking volunteers for cleanup
The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville is seeking help to wash headstones and perform minor landscaping tasks during the week of April 20 - 24. The cemetery is preparing for their major National inspection and wants to put the best face on the facility and grounds. Volunteers may contact the cemetery Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 660-362-6111. If any group organizations wish to perform a weekend cleanup, that can be arranged. Additionally, the cemetery will happily sign off for any local students for community service hours.

CCMH announces next Chief Executive Officer
Carroll County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors is excited to announce Blake Riley has accepted the position as CCMH’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective June 22, 2026.
