Juneteenth agenda announced
The Lafayette County Juneteenth Foundation Board proudly announces its agenda for the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration. The 2026 celebration will be held Friday, June 26, 2026 thru Sunday, June 28, 2026. Activities will be held in Higginsville and Lexington. The theme is “Freedom: Yesterday’s Legacy, Today’s Promise, and Tomorrow’s Hope!” Alcohol is not permitted. Everyone is welcome. Children under the age of 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Missouri Hot Weather Law took effect June 1
The Missouri Public Service Commission reminds consumers that Missouri’s Hot Weather Law will be in effect from June 1 through September 30.

Income tax elimination to go on August Primary Election ballot
On May 22, Governor Mike Kehoe announced that he has signed proclamations placing Amendment 1, Amendment 2 (HJR 23/3), Amendment 4 (HJR 3), and Amendment 5 (HJR 173/174) on the August primary election ballot. The primary election will take place on Aug. 4, 2026.

Want some free fun that gets family and friends outside in nature? Get hooked on fishing with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Free Fishing Days June 6 and 7. During Free Fishing Days, anyone may fish in the Show-Me State without having to buy a fishing permit, trout permit, or trout park daily tag.

Confederate Memorial Day event planned for June 13 in Higginsville
The Confederate Memorial Friends Association, along with the Confederate State Historic Site in Higginsville, is sponsoring the annual Confederate Memorial Day on Saturday, June 13. At 10 a.m., refreshments will be served at the pergola, to mark the completion of restoration of the foundation of the Confederate Memorial rock. At 11 a.m., the memorial service will begin.
