Huskers rally late to top the Minutemen

The Higginsville Huskers baseball team came from behind, by scoring three runs in the seventh inning, to beat the Lexington Minutemen 6 to 5 a week ago Monday, at Lexington Community Park.
Higginsville grabbed an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, as Levi Kroesen reached on an error, and scored on a single by Owen Wood. The Minutemen took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, as Johnny Groves singled, and scored on a single by Kale Sander, who then scored on a balk. In the next inning, Alex Kraft was hit by a pitch, and after stealing a couple of bases, he scored on a ground out by Drew Bollmeyer to make it 3-1 Lexington.
Higginsville scored twice in the top of the sixth frame to tie it up, as Kroesen singled, and scored on a single by Brice Maulis, who came in on a fielders choice by John Wilkens, and it was 3-3. The Minutemen then regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Isac Huffman, who reached on an error. scored on a single by Tristyn Hurshman, and it was 4-3 Lexington, heading into the seventh inning..
In the top of the seventh, Joel Mahnken led off for Higginsville with a single, and then with two outs, Kroesen reached on an error with a run scoring, Rylan Shockey reached on a wild pitch on a third strike, and Wood drove in two with a long single, and the Huskers led 6-4.
The Minutemen rallied in the seventh, as Jesse Dunkle had a long single, and went to third on a single by Kraft. Bollmeyer then drove in a run on a ground out to make it a 1 run game, but the Huskers then got the final out, and came away with the 65 victory.
Hurshman had a strong performance on the mound for Lexington, as he yielded only 2 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings, with 10 strikeouts and 5 walks. Huffman pitched the final 2/3 of an inning allowing no earned runs on 2 hits. Kraft had two hits for Lexington, while Wood and Mahnken each had two for Higginsville. Both teams had 6 hits total.
Lexington at Carrollton
The Minutemen traveled to Carrollton last Thursday, and they fell to the Trojans by a score of 11 to 0. Lexington is on the road today (Wednesday) to face Cameron and they will be at home tomorrow to play Richmond. They will have three home games next week, as they will face Knob Nosgter on Monday, Holden on Tuesday and Oak Grove on Thursday.
