Minutemen baseball team splits two conference games

The Lexington Minutemen took the lead midway through the game, added some insurance runs,, and hung on to defeat the Higginsville Huskers 8 to 5, a week ago Tuesday in Higginsville. The Huskers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Minutemen tied it at 1 apiece in the second when Trey Perez singled, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Drew Bollmeyer. It stayed 1-1 until the fourth, when Lexington got two runs with two outs on back to back singles by Johnny Groves and Bollmeyer to make it 3-1.
The Minutemen expanded their lead to 6-1 in the fifth frame, on an RBI double by Abel Morris, another RBI single by Groves, and a run scoring ground out by Tristyn Hurshman.
The Huskers tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim Lexington’s lead to 6-3, but the Minutemen added an insurance run in the sixth, and another in the seventh, thanks to RBI singles by Morris and Bollmeyer, and it was 8-3 Lexington, going into the bottom of the seventh. Higginsville rallied though, as they scored 2 runs, and had the bases loaded, in the seventh, when Lexington finally recorded the final out to seal the 8-5 win. Perez was the winning pitcher for Lexington pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits.
Perez struck out 3, walked only 1 and hit 2. Hunter Meyer pitched the final 1/3 of an inning, and retired the final out. Bollmeyer had 2 hits and drove in three runs, while Morris had 2 hits, including a double and drove in 2, with Groves collecting 2 hits and also driving in 2. Levi Kroesen and Cael Wilkson each had 2 hits for Higginsville Richmond at Lexington
Playing their fourth game in as many days, the Minutemen had a 2 run lead after four innings, but the Richmond Spartans scored 9 runs in the fifth, and came away with a 15 to 7 win last Thursday in Lexington.
After Richmond scored a run in the first inning, Isac Huffman singled, Drew Bollmeyer doubled, and Alex Kraft and Braxton Emerson singled, all with two outs in the second, and Lexington led 3-1. The Spartans tied it up with 2 runs in the third, but the Minutemen regained the lead in the fourth as Sander doubled, Kraft singled, and Trey Perez drove in a run with a ground out, and Lexington led 5-3.
Then came the disastrous fifth inning, as Richmond banged out 5 hits, benefitted from 5 free passes and 2 Lexington errors, and they scored 9 runs and led 12-5. The Minutemen added a run in the sixth on a double by Sander and singles by Kraft and Hunter Meyer, and added another tally in the seventh.
Kraft had 4 hits in the contest to pace the Lexington offense, while Sander had 2 doubles and Bollmeyer one. Huffman and Meyer each reached base 3 times and both had a hit, while Emerson and Tristyn Hurshman each had a hit. Hurshman, Huffman and Bollmeyer all pitched for Lexington. Jacob Lieberknecht had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and scored 3 runs for Richmond.
