Minutemen drop final conference game to Carrollton
Carrollton pitcher Ryan Henry was definitely the star of the game, as he pitched a complete game shut out, and also drove in 4 runs in leading the Carrollton Trojans to a 10 to 0 win over the Lexington Minutemen last Wednesday at Indian Foothills Park in Marshall.
Carrollton got off to a quick start in the top of the first, as Henry drove in a run with a double, and Maddux O’Doniel followed with a run scoring single to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Things started out looking promising for Lexington in the bottom half of the inning, as lead off hitter Alex Kraft lined the first pitch into left field for a single, and Braxton Emerson barely missed a home run on his first pitch, as he drilled a shot to the base of the right center field fence, where it was caught. Hunter Meyer then drew a free pass, but two ground outs followed stranding the two runners in scoring position.
Carrollton put a dent in the contest in the top of the third, as they scored 3 runs with Henry driving in two more with his second double, and O’Doniel collecting another RBI single, and it was 5-0 Trojans. Kraft smashed his second single of the game with one out in the third for Lexington, but the Minutemen left another runner in scoring position, and the score remained the same.
Henry retired 14 of the last 15 Minutemen hitters in the game, as Drew Bollmeyer drew a base on balls in the seventh inning, to be the only Lexington player to reach base safely, after the third inning. Carrollton scored 3 more runs in the fourth inning, and added a run in each of the sixth and seventh frames to make the final 10-0. Tristyn Hurshman was the starting pitcher for Lexington, as he worked 6 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 10 hits with 2 strikeouts and 3 free passes. Kraft threw the final inning, yielding 1 run on 1 hit, with 3 free passes.
For Carrollton, Henry pitched a 2 hit shut out, with 7 strikeouts and only 2 walks. Kraft had the only 2 hits for the Minutemen, while Meyer and Bollmeyer both walked.
Henry had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 4 runs driven in, with O’Doniel also collecting 3 hits with 2 RBIs for the Trojans.
