Mary Ann Bartel

Mary Ann (Cook) Bartel 87, of Concordia, passed away in her sleep June 16, 2026. Born June 13, 1939, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Cook, Sr. and Flora Cook (nee Bushman). Flora died three days later due to complications with the pregnancy, resulting in Mary Ann being raised by her aunt and uncle, Helen and John Schmidt.
Mary Ann was confirmed into the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackburn, in 1953. She graduated from Blackburn High School in 1957, and in 1958 she married William (Bill) Bartel. She was a homemaker, home-daycare provider and was the bookkeeper for her and Bill’s trucking business until he retired in 2000.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Karen Bartel; son, Kevin (Beverly) Bartel; grandson, Jackson Bartel; brother, Roger (Karen) Cook; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Carol Ann Cook, Gerry & Edie Bartel, Jim & Robin Bartel, Charlie & Cheryl Holder, Rose Phillips, Susie Bartelette, Rob & Cindy Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; aunt; uncle; husband; eldest son Gary; brothers Arthur (Ann) Cook, Charles (Gayle) Cook and Leslie Cook; her parents-in-law Everett Bartel and Clarence and Mildred Ehlert; and many extended family.
Visitation and funeral services were held on June 18, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia. Burial followed at Salt Fork Cemetery near Nelson. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Concordia, Zion Lutheran Church of Blackburn or Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Missouri District in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.
