Minutemen can’t get rolling on offense against Knob Noster

Lexington pitcher Trey Perez, pretty well held Knob Noster, one of the conference co-leaders in check for six innings, but the Minutemen could not really get anything going on offense, and they fell 6 to 0 to the Panthers last Wednesday, in a game at Lexington Community Park.

Perez allowed only one earned run, and scattered 4 hits over the first six frames, as the Panthers scored a single run in the first, and then tallied 2 more runs on Lexington errors in the fourth and fifth innings, and they led 3-0 after 6 innings. Knob then broke the game open in the seventh, as they banged out three long doubles, and got a 2 run homer by Oliver Defenbaugh to make it 6-0, which ended up being the final.

Although he was sharp, Perez was overshadowed in the game by Knob pitcher Mason Eames who had a no hitter through 6 2/3 innings. The Minutemen got their first and only hit of the contest when, in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Perez laced a line drive single to right center.

The ironic thing about this game is, that although Lexington had only one hit and one runner in scoring position for the entire game, Eames only had 3 strikeouts in the game, as the Minutemen made good contact at the plate, but had nothing to show for it, as Knob played outstanding defense. Tristyn Hurshman came in to relieve Perez , with two outs in the seventh.

Isaac Huffman drew two walks for Lexington, while Alex Kraft, Hunter Meyer and Perez were all plunked by pitches and reached base. Defenbaugh had another hit in addition to his round tripper, while Sam Rosine had two hits including a double for Knob.

Oak Grove at Lexington The Oak Grove Panthers scored 6 runs in the first inning, including a grand slam hone run by Jaxson Ford, and they never looked back in beating the Lexington Minutemen 16 to 1 in a game last Thursday at Lexington Community Park.

The Panthers added 2 runs in the second, 2 more in the third inning, and then tallied 6 runs in the fourth frame to put the game away. Lexington scored their only run in the fourth inning, as Ayden Harned singled, went to second on a ground out by Trey Perez, and scored on an RBI single by Johnnie Groves.

Alex Kraft and Braxton Emerson both also had singles for Lexington, while Hunter Meyer and Isaac Huffman both drew walks in the contest. Tristyn Hurshman pitched the first two innings for Lexington, while Harned and Huffman each threw one inning. The three pitchers combined to strike out 3.

Oak Grove had 9 hits and benefitted from 11 free passes. Ford and Camren Moore each had 3 hits for the Panthers, while Spencer Chambers had 2.
