DAR CHAPTER CELEBRATES
Members of the Lafayette-Lexington chapter of the DAR celebrated the chapter’s 123rd birthday at their June meeting. Ann Quarles Aull was the organizing regent of the chapter when it was founded on June 6, 1903.
Concerns over taxes, budget shared at MRTA Region 5 meeting
On Thursday, June 4, Lafayette County Retired School Personnel officers John Morgan (President), Carol Struchtemeyer (VP), Gail Lilleman (Treasurer), and Amy Chambers Thieman (Secretary), along with Region 5’s Distinguished Retiree Award Winner, Evelyn Trigg, attended MRTA’s Region 5 Annual Meeting.
Resilience and a playground
A small crowd gathered on the playground under heavy storm clouds on Saturday morning to witness the dedication of the newly reimagined College Park in honor of Alistair Lamb, the five year old boy who tragically died in last year’s gas line explosion.
Lafayette County Cares Coalition Hosts 2nd Annual Stomp the Stigma 5K Connect
The Lafayette County Cares Coalition proudly hosted the 2nd Annual Stomp the Stigma 5K Connect on Saturday, May 30th, bringing together community members, local organizations, advocates, and supporters in a united effort to raise awareness about mental health and substance use conditions and suicide prevention, while promoting hope, connection, and wellness.
Minnie Mae Day celebrates courage
June 13, 2026 marked the first annual Minnie Mae Day celebration in Lexington. Many events and people came together on this day to celebrate and honor Minnie Mae Talbott, a hidden treasure of Lexington, starting in the morning with a play and ending in the evening with a country music concert called “Voices of Courage.”
Booster Club golf tournament is a big success
The Lexington All Sports Booster Club hosted their annual fundraising Golf Tournament on June 6 at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond, and again this year, the tournament raised a large amount of money to support the Sports programs in the Lexington School District.
Juneteenth agenda announced
The Lafayette County Juneteenth Foundation Board proudly announces its agenda for the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration. The 2026 celebration will be held Friday, June 26, 2026 thru Sunday, June 28, 2026. Activities will be held in Higginsville and Lexington. The theme is “Freedom: Yesterday’s Legacy, Today’s Promise, and Tomorrow’s Hope!” Alcohol is not permitted. Everyone is welcome. Children under the age of 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
