Last week, Family Dollar conducted a “balloon drive” in observance of the Valentine’s Day holiday. Mary Teichman, store manager, thought of the idea of encouraging the community to purchase balloons to send to elderly residents of Lexington. Over 100 balloons were purchased. Eighty-four balloons were delivered to the residents of Riverbend Heights Health & Rehabilitation and three balloons were sent to the residents of Bristol Manor in Lexington. The remainder of the balloons were given to the Margaret Gray Center to distribute by volunteers who deliver meals. The Family Dollar team expressed appreciation for the tremendous support given by the community. Pictured (L to R) are: John Savala, Teichman and Mandy Pitt.

The Knights of Columbus Council 4300 hosted a fish fry Feb. 6 with proceeds benefiting the Margaret Gray Center. Last week several members of the council came to present the center with a generous donation check to support its mission of creating positive aging experiences in Lexington. “One of the most wonderful things about Lexington is that we have a fellowship with our nonprofits; we all share the same mission of making Lexington better. Thank you to those who supported the Knights of Columbus and Margaret Gray Center,” said center coordinator Candace Weddle.

Lexington Fire and Rescue recently hosted a CPR class for EMTs, medics, cadets and local residents, boasting a great turn out. The skills covered in the training were adult and infant/child choking management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. By hosting (instructing) this course, two LFR team members were signed off on their Basic Life Support CPR instructor course. Pictured are various participants.

Lex La-Ray Technical Center hosted the SkillsUSA Collision Repair and Auto Refinish West Central District Competition on Saturday, January 31. Collision Repair students competed in welding, small dent repair, and plastics repair. Auto Refinish students competed in scratch repair, spot panel repair with blending, masking, and clear coating a vehicle. All students went through a job interview process.
